Beauty and the Beast Trailer Review

The first official full-length trailer for Beauty and the Beast (2017) has finally arrived and wow oh wow was it something. Never have I watched a trailer and been so much in awe of how beautiful it looks, never!

Why am I surprised though? It’s Disney after all…

From the opening shot of the castle to the ballroom we so fondly remember from its animated predecessor, and the subtle score from the classic title song, this trailer was undeniably beautiful and pure Disney magic. I have personally been eagerly waiting for this, especially as I was underwhelmed by the teaser trailer, and boy did this not disappoint!

Beauty and the Beast
This trailer gave us our first real look at how the Beast would appear in live action and I was not expecting him to look as good as he did. He was fierce, powerful, intimidating and yet I still felt the innocence in his character. When I saw the poster last week, the CGI looked out of place, but seeing this today has definitely relieved any concerns I had. By the looks of it, Dan Stevens’ portrayal looks set to something spectacular.

And then there’s Belle…this trailer has reiterated what you’ve probably heard a million times by now – Emma Watson as Belle is PERFECT CASTING!! Emma Watson personifies, looks like and simply is Belle. When she came on screen it honestly felt like I was watching the animated classic. She’s strong, innocent and beautiful. The phrase “I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role” is said a tad too often nowadays…but this honestly feels perfect, she is the only women who could play Belle.

Nostalgic
As the first full length trailer, we finally got to see the direction Disney have taken with this live action retelling. It seems very familiar and looks like more of a remake than a retelling, but for some reason I’m ok with it. This probably has to do with how good the story was from the original, something that can’t always be said of Disney’s classics. From watching the trailer, nostalgia is going to hit people hard as they are taken back to a world of which their childhoods were made.

Supporting Characters
I wasn’t 100% on board with this particular live action retelling, a lot of that to do with how on earth can you make a clock, teapot, candle, wardrobe and other furniture come to life so naturally. After seeing the images released last week, my concern grew (it looked really weird). And then I watched the trailer…wow was I surprised. These pieces of talking furniture/cutlery actually looked good and I bought into them right away, with the voice acting just brings it all to life. I still however do have some concerns with the look, especially when they have prolonged scenes in the film. Oh and was it just me or did anyone else hate the baby teapots voice? NOT CUTE ENOUGH Disney!!!

Look & Feel
As I said in the beginning, I don’t think I have ever seen a trailer look so beautiful. The entire set design from the castle to the pub, the castle grounds to the ballroom – it literally felt like I was watching snippets of the original animated classic. I was mesmerised by both the vast scale and detail of each shot, each scene filled with rich colours pouring out of my screen. It was the definition of beauty, and how fitting that is.

This trailer has ramped up my excitement tenfold for this film. You can tell this is a Disney film, the magic just comes through in bucket loads. Whether another trailer is released or not, this has shown us exactly what kind of film is in store + a glimpse of how magical this live action retelling could be - possibly Disney’s best yet? The tale as old as time has only 4 months till release and March 2017 can’t come sooner!!
