My Top 5 (REALISTIC) Exam Tips!!
So its got to that point in the year which everyone dreads...EXAM SEASON :(((
Many of you reading have either already started, or about to start your exams, meaning your all (hopefully) busy revising. You've probably seen or heard of lots of exam tips, on what to do to maximise the efficiency of your revision. While some are useful, I find some aren't really that realistic, and are not useful to our situations.
So from using my experience of revising, here are my top 5 REALISTIC exam tips (note: some views expressed may be quite odd but here me out pls thanks)!!!
1. Don't take breaks...revise for as long as possible
Many of you may see or hear "take a quick break every 40-50 mins or so"....NO!!! DONT DO THAT. You got to bang out the revision. If you keep taking short breaks you'll loose focus. Once your in the zone, your in the zone so keep going for as long as possible. If you work continuously for a few hours you'll get lots done!! Plus, knowing most people (including myself), we procrastinate a lot so in a way were taking breaks more than we realise.
Hint!! Revise for approximately 3-5 hours and then consider taking a break...unless your a boss in which case just keep going haha :D
2. Use the time you eat as your break
If you've followed step 1 then when you do take a break, take a long one (perhaps an hour) and have a good meal in the process. We all love food, so have whatever you want, watch some TV and don't forget to be fat :) During exams, don't focus on what is healthy, eat what you like because eating is probably the happiest part of the day lol.
3. Past Papers > Note making!!
Once you write up a set of notes, don't keep on writing more and more, condensing them down each time. It might be useful for some but lets be honest, it takes up a lot of time. Instead, just write up your notes properly once, and then do lots of practice questions and past papers. Past papers are a great way to prepare for exams as it makes you familiar with the type of questions your going to receive in the exam. You could even deduce what topics are likely to come up in your exam by looking which topics haven't come up in a while.
Hint!! If you have access to them, go through the mark schemes for the exam papers. They are great in understanding what you pick up marks for, and for what you don't. It helps with the structure and content of your answer, as you'll understand what points you need to cover.
4. Friends = Foe (sort of)
We've all had study sessions with our friends that we come out of thinking "What a waste". Sometimes during exams, distancing yourselves from your friends is probably the wisest step to take. You love them but they're also a huge distraction, meaning cutting back on those "study sessions" might be worth a try. Not to say that you shouldn't work in groups, as sometimes (if your with the right people) it can be really productive, and for some subjects its necessary. Helping each other answer questions and discuss topics is quite useful. However, know when to walk away from the group and study yourself, you'll get a heck of a lot more done!!
5. Get enough sleep!!!
This last tip might be the most obvious but seriously guys, during exams manage your time wisely and get enough sleep. At least 7-10 hours of sleep is necessary for you to be fresh and have enough energy to bang out another lengthy revision session. If you don't get enough sleep, you'll be tired when you revise which is not good, because all you'll be thinking about is going back to bed. It doesn't matter when you go sleep or wake up, as long as you get enough sleep and get lots of work done!! :)
Hint!! Cut back entertainment like TV and reading in order to accommodate time for the more important things like sleep :)
So those are my 5 exam tips I thought would be useful in sharing with you all. Whether you find them useful or not, the main thing is to revise the way that's best for you.
Good luck to all of you doing exams!! I wish you the best of luck! #YouCanDoThis :D
