The Best 15 Moments Of The MCU

One day everyone, we are now ONE DAY away from the release of Avengers: Endgame here in the UK. As the world premier took place on Monday, reactions and reviews from critics have arrived online and… the hype is well and truly real! Many critics have praised the film for giving a satisfying, emotional and immense conclusion to the MCU. One of my favourite online film critics (or “pundit” as he likes to say) John Campea, said in his non-spoiler review that the last hour of the film is greatest hour in comic book film history. If that’s not praise I don’t know what is.

Many have praised the film and have said there are multiple frames, moments and scenes that rank among the best in the MCU. In honour of this, and the release of Endgame, I’ve decided to share my 15 best moments/scenes from the MCU thus far:

#15 – Captain America is Born

A great scene from Captain America: The First Avengers, we’d seen the heart and bravery Steve Rodgers has, so seeing him selected for the super soldier program, and becoming Captain America was an iconic moment.

#14 – I’m Mary Poppins Ya’ll

The funniest moments from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Yondu is about to sacrifice himself to save Star Lord and the rest of the Guardians, and mistakenly calls himself Mary Poppins.

 #13 - Battle on Titan

One of many great scenes from Avengers: Infinity War, some of the Guardians, Iron Man, Dr Strange and Spiderman battle Thanos to stop him from destroying all they love. Thanos’s respect for Tony Stark, and is fight with Dr Strange are some of the best parts.

#12 – Vision is Worthy

Shortly after Vision is born in Avengers: Age of Ultron (thanks Thor), he reassures the group he is on their side, and will help them to defeat Ultron. He then passes Thor’s hammer to Thor, thus cementing himself as “worthy” (great pay-off for a joke set-up earlier in the film).

#11 – Kill Monger Visits the Ancestral Plane

An moment from Black Panther which carries so much emotional weight, Kill Monger visits the ancestral plane, talking to his deceased father from his childhood. The scene really made us feel sorry for the loss and burden the villain has faced since childhood.

#10 – Puny God

A fantastic scene from the first Avengers film, Loki is about to run his mouth to Hulk, but Hulk is having none of it. He grabs Loki by the feet and smashes him on floor multiple times like a ragdoll, leaving him in pain before uttering “puny god”…hilarious! 

#9 – T’challa will be his Own King

Having learnt his father left his cousin alone in Oakland, and being defeated by Kill Monger, T’challa visits the ancestral plane one more time, and powerfully tells his father and other ancestors they were wrong to turn their back on the world, and vows to be a different kind of king.

#8 – Hydra is Shield

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we learn that Shield has been a cover this whole time, and that the organisation is being secretly run by members of Hydra, a pivotal moment in Steve’s journey.

#7 – Avengers Assemble

A moment which was all over the marketing for the first Avengers film, but still lost no impact when you saw it on screen for the first time. Hulk arrives in New York and the Avengers finally assemble in a magnificent shot.

 #6 – We Are Groot

With Ronan’s ship hurtling towards Xandar, Groot sacrifices himself to save the rest of the Guardians. It’s an emotional moment in the film, cementing the fact that these characters/misfits have become a true family.

#5 – Thor vs Hulk

A great scene from Thor: Ragnarok, Thor learns that he’ll be fighting Hulk in “The Contest of Champions”. It’s ok though, “he’s a friend from work” lol. A great battle between the 2 most powerful Avengers, it really shows of just how powerful Thor can be.

#4 – Iron Man vs Captain America/Winter Soldier

After multiple disputes and fights already in the film, Tony finds out in Captain America: Civil War that the Winter Soldier (brainwashed) killed his parents. An angry Tony wants to kill Bucky, but as his best friend, Steve won’t let that happen.

#3 – I am Iron Man

Giving the audience a twist which had never been done in a comic book film, Tony Stark reveals and the end of the first Iron Man film that he his Iron Man to the whole world.

#2 – Airport Fight Scene

The best action set-piece in the MCU, the airport scene from Civil War had it all. With the Avengers divided, they battle it out for what they believe. We see Wanda in action (she is immense), Spiderman holding his own, and Ant Man turning BIG tops the whole scene off…amazing!

#1 – Thor Arrives in Wakanda

The best moment from all of Infinity War, Thor, Rocket and Groot are on Nidavellir trying to make Stormbreaker. From Thor taking the full force of the dying star, to Groot making the handle, the scene is immense. And it’s topped off by Thor summoning the bifrost and entering Wakanda in style, with the Avengers score being so on point, it was a thrilling moment.

These scenes were almost impossible to rank, so take these rankings with a pinch of salt. The MCU has given us so many memorable moments, and I’m sure Avengers: Endgame will provide a whole lot more.
