5 Burning Questions After Watching Avengers: Endgame

Let me just start off by saying - Avengers: Endgame - you were beautiful. What a film and what conclusion to this amazing 22 film “Infinity Saga”. Emotion, action, throwbacks, fan-service (done right)…this film literally had it all. For a run-time of 3 hours, every single minute was fully deserved.

But while Marvel/Disney are busy breaking box office records, I (and many fans alike) have a lot of questions coming out of Endgame. This film was itself a LOT. So much happened and it left the doors open for tons of possibilities going forward. There are more questions to answer than I can cover, but here are my 5 questions after watching Avengers: Endgame

***WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD***

Timelines

Time travel is confusing, even for the Avengers. Hulk/Banner and the Ancient One did explain how time travel can create new timelines, alter the past, etc. But even with this, it was honestly quite a lot to wrap your head around. Lots happened during the “time heist” scenes, and I wonder how many different stories may have been set-up going forward. Are the Infinity Stones part of the same reality now? And will time travel through the quantum realm moving forward still be used as a plot device? Confused isn’t even the word.

State of the Avengers
One of the biggest questions coming out of Endgame is the state of the Avengers. In Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers were made to sign the Sokovia accords, however most of them did not sign, and therefore became “criminals”. So is all forgiven, or will governments not allow a team to form again? And if there is an official Avengers team, who will lead them? Three of the original six Avengers are no longer here, meaning someone needs to take up the responsibility. Black Panther is busy being king of Wakanda, Dr Strange has important priorities as the Sorcerer Supreme, and Spiderman is far too young. It’s a tough one to answer, and perhaps they won’t have an actual leader moving forward…I’m just excited to see where they go.

Why is Gamora?

Although Thanos killed Gamora in Infinity War, Endgame gave us a 2014 Gamora now in the main timeline. With her amazing chemistry with the rest of the Guardians, it’s difficult to imagine her not being a part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. We saw in Endgame that Star Lord was searching for her (he still loves her), so it will be interesting to see whether they play on their relationship at all going forward.

Original Avengers
When it came down to it, Avengers: Endgame was really the story of the original six Avengers, and the culmination of their character arcs. With Iron Man and Black Widow dead, and Steve Rodgers now an old man, it leaves the question of what to do with Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye. Endgame may have set-up for Thor to be in Guardians 3, but it’s difficult to say whether he’ll remain a permanent member, or if he’ll eventually team up with Valkyrie for a Thor 4. With Hulk, his character evolved so much with Endgame, I think he’ll most likely remain part of the Avengers, but we won’t see him in many films going forward. As for Hawkeye, I believe his time is done, especially when you think back to Black Widow’s sacrifice - it was so he could be with his family again, and I doubt he will put them at risk.

Disney+ Shows

With Disney putting so many resources behind its upcoming streaming service, Marvel have said their shows for Disney+ will be very connected to the MCU. We know that shows for Loki, Falcon & Winter Soldier, and Wanda & Vision are in the works, but Endgame leaves us wondering how they will pan out. As Steve passes his shield to Sam, I believe the Falcon/Winter Soldier show will focus heavily on Sam coming to terms with taking on the mantle of Captain America. With WandaVision, how are they going to bring Vision back? And will the Loki show take place in an alternate timeline or the main one (during the time heist, he escaped with the Tesseract). I can’t wait to see how these shows compare to the films, and how they will fit in to the overall universe post-Endgame.
