Spider-Man: Far From Home - Key Trailer Takeways
In the wake of Avengers: Endgame’s success, we were reminded
yesterday of the other Marvel film opening this summer, Spider-Man: Far From
Home. As Endgame has been in cinemas for two weeks, the marketing for Far From
Home will start to ramp in time for its July release. Just like the first one,
this trailer was full of awesome, heart, and fun – all the things a Spider-Man
film should be.
Like any second trailer, we got to know more about the film’s plot, showing off some cool character interactions and action set-pieces, whilst giving us an idea of the themes in the film. As Spider-Man: Far From Home will be the final film in phase 3, it makes sense to set-up plot devices for phase 4 through this film. There were a few interesting points of note, so here are my key takeaways from the trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home…
Peter & MJ’s Relationship
The end of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming revealed that one of Peter’s classmates refers to herself as “MJ” (like the traditional Mary Jane love interest), meaning we knew this film would play more into a potential relationship. The trailer gave us glimpses of an awkward Peter and a witty MJ, showing us all he wants for now is to have a normal vacation with his friends and put superhero duties to one side. And apparently MJ knows Peter is Spider-Man?
Bigger Role for Spider-Man
With many of the original six Avengers not around, it seems Spider-Man (all be it reluctantly) is being asked to play a greater role as part of the Avengers. Going forward, there are many questions as to who will lead the Avengers, but this trailer makes Spider-Man out to be a contender. Although I don’t think he will lead the Avengers, he will definitely have a greater role from now on, with more responsibility on his shoulders. Again the trailer seems to tell us how Peter can carry on Tony’s legacy.

***WARNING: ENDGAME SPOILERS AHEAD***
Aftermath of Endgame
This trailer really gives you a sense of how the world has
changed since the events of Avengers: Endgame, and puts into perspective how
much Tony’s death has affected those close to him. Spider-Man and Happy are
still mourning Tony Stark and miss him deeply, while Peter’s motivations
throughout the trailer come back to making Tony proud, and continuing his
legacy in some way.
Multiverse
We learn from the trailer that Mysterio (traditionally a Spider-Man villain) has somehow entered our reality through a rift in space (caused by the snap), and with the help of Shield, he is trying to return to his own universe. For the first time in the MCU, the idea of a multiverse could now be in play. There is fan speculation that Mysterio may be fooling Shield into believing a multiverse exists, but if it does, the possibilities this could open for the wider MCU are endless, and could pave the way for different stories to be told.
