A First Look at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Just the other week, Vanity Fair released the first official
images and details for the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The last instalment
of the sequel trilogy will bring a close to the “Skywalker saga”, meaning the
pressure is on for Lucasfilm to get this one right. The Last Jedi was
undoubtedly divisive, so many have speculated JJ Abram’s will go back to
elements which have worked well previously.
As the two main leads of this sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker will lead both Rey and Kylo Ren on a path to an eventual final confrontation. Adam Driver talked about the relationship between the two characters and their “maybe-bond”. Whether Kylo decides to peruse some sort of relationship with Rey remains to be seen. I have a strange feeling they will come together in the film, reluctantly perhaps? See below an amazing shot of Rey and Kylo battling it out in a storm.
Knights of Ren
The Force Awakens teased us about Kylo Ren’s “gang” of sorts – the Knights of Ren. With a great visual look, many of us were instantly intrigued as to who they were, and whether we would get to see them in action. Sadly The Last Jedi didn’t go into this much, but a newly released image shows the Knights ready to shoot a scene. It will be interesting how big of a role they play in Episode 9, and the dynamics between the group and Kylo.
Concluding the Jedi/Sith Conflict
One of the most interesting points to come out of the Vanity Fair article is JJ Abrams hinting this last instalment will provide a conclusion to the Jedi and Sith conflict. Now this may seem a bit strange considering there has been no mention of the Sith in this new trilogy, but Abrams was keen to emphasise the pressure of this film needing to tie in the entire Skywalker saga in a satisfying way. A popular theory is that Skywalker will be a new term in the universe for those who use both the light and dark side of the force.
The article by Vanity Fair gave us an interesting insight
into the direction Abrams is taking with Episode 9, and gave us some fantastic
images to go along with it.

The New Generation
A final point of note was Abrams mentioning how this trilogy
is all about the new generation of heroes dealing with the debt left from the
previous generation and events. Rey was always a “nobody”, yet the force made
it so that she became Kylo’s equal in the light. Her and Finn have been drawn
into this generational conflict, and how they bring this conflict to a close
will be interesting to see.
