Chaotic, Crazy & Evil - Cruella Trailer Review

Image
Disney's animated classics gave us some truly amazing villains. You think of characters like Maleficent, Scar, Captain Hook, and more who have transcended pop culture, becoming as famous and revered by audiences as their hero counterparts.  So what happens when you make a film based purely on the bad guy? Well it runs the risk making them feel too "good" like Maleficent (2014) which received mixed reviews. Villains are great because they're evil, so I was always nervous when Disney announced they were developing a Cruella film (based on 101 Dalmatians). But t his week we got a poster and a full trailer and it's and understatement to say I've done a complete 180 on my opinions. With Emma Stone cast as Cruella, we always knew this film would be worth watching just for the sheer class of what we know she can bring to a role. But the poster (above) was just WOW. I immediately got St Trinian's vibes - gothic, psychotic and a whole lot of sass. Emma Stone was Cr

Film Without Romance? No Thanks - My Favourite Romantic Films

Image
Valentines weekend is here and serves as a great reminder to love those closest to us. Romance is well and alive in February, and it's also an excuse for people to turn to their favourite rom-coms or tear-jerkers and watch till the hearts content. Romantic films, and the Valentine season in general tend to heavily skew towards women. It makes sense I guess, but believe me when I say romance in film is something that can be enjoyed by everyone. I'm a guy, and I love romantic films (THERE I SAID IT)! 💁😁 Whilst I haven't ( and don't intend too)  watch Fifty Shades, Netflix has tons of romantic films to choose from this weekend. And yes, I'm looking forward to watching the latest To All The Boys film! Since I don't have anything better to do this Valentines, I thought I'd share with you all some of my favourite romantic films. Some of these aren't straight up romantic films, but romance is definitely a big theme in each one. In no particular order, enjoy..

STAR Holds The Final Key Disney+ To Domination

Image
Since its launch in November 2019, Disney+ has amassed over 80 million subscribers worldwide, a feat no one would have expected when the service launched.  But even with all its success, there were still many people (myself included) who were hesitant, or didn't see the worth in subscribing to Disney+. The main reason being was that there wasn't a wide enough variety of content on the platform, a sense that "its all the same" and "there's only so many Disney films I can watch".  BUT, this is where things are going to change! Disney are finally rolling out their STAR section on Disney+ in the UK (and many other markets) on 23rd February. In Disney's own words, its "OUR BIGGEST CONTENT DROP EVER"... There'd been lots of speculation as to how Disney were going to integrate all of the Fox content they had acquired , and it was announced last year they would be taking the "Star" brand they'd acquired, and putting all their matu

DC Head Gives Glimpse Into The Future Of DC Films

Image
For so many years, DC had been trying to play catch up to Marvel. A Cinematic universe, crossovers, interconnected stories and all in a shorter space of time. As we know their efforts on the most part did not work, meaning a rethink was in order. After multiple leadership and structural changes, it finally seems as though DC/Warner Bros are starting to get their act together, and Head of DC Films Walter Hamada has been instrumental ins steadying the ship. Under his leadership, DC has taken a step back on their shared cinematic universe ambitions, instead focusing on individual heroes and stories. Aquaman, Shazam, Joker, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984 are all positive steps in the right direction, and its clear DC is starting to finds its groove. And I don't care what anyone says - I thought Birds of Prey was great (a real shame it didn't perform at the box office). But looking to the future, there's a lot more to come from the comic book giant, Walter Hamada revealed

My Most Anticipated Films of 2021

Image
A year go, I wouldn't have thought that I'd be sitting here now in January 2021, still waiting to see The Eternals or No Time To Die yet here we are. 2020 was a wild year, but very tame one for the box office. With the Covid-19 pandemic closing cinemas across the globe, many of the years biggest films have now moved to 2021 - which in other words means 2021 is STACKED with high profile films. We all have our most anticipated lists, so I thought I'd share with you the films I'm most excited to see in the coming year! Apologies in advance for the glaring omissions. RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON Disney's animation studio has been on a roll this past decade, producing quality film after quality film, and this one looks to be in the same vein as all those other great animated flicks. We've known about this film since D23 in 2019, and I've been really interested in how Disney are going to bring this story to life - dragons, warrior's, and a south-east Asia backdrop

Peacock Is Here - But Still Has A (Long) Ways To Go

Image
Peacock (NBCUniversal/Comcast) was the last of the major streaming services to launch in the US, launching nationally on 15 th July. It was already available to Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Flex cable customers since April, but since the national launch, we now have some official numbers to help us understand how Peacock has been received - and it’s a mixed bag! Since April, Peacock has added 10 million subscribers to the service, although most of these would likely be through Comcast’s cable package. 10 million is a good number in all honesty, but still falls well behind Disney+ who gained 10 million subscribers on its first day (that number is still astonishing). We shouldn’t really expect Peacock to be challenging those numbers, but their subscriber growth since national launch tells a more humble story. In its first 6 days, Peacock added 1.5 million subscribers, which is by no means a failure, but I’m sure Comcast wanted a stronger launch, especially considering the service has a fr

Why "No-Platforming" Films/Shows IS NOT The Answer To Our Racially Problematic Past

Image
It’s an understatement to say tensions have been running high these past few months, and that’s racial tension to be precise. The death of George Floyd sparked numerous protests and debate worldwide around (initially) police brutality, and then wider issues around racial prejudice and injustice. Numerous other critical issues around systematic racism, privilege, and more have been bought to our attention, with even the Coronavirus Pandemic highlighting major flaws. So much debate has been created that now the film and wider entertainment industries are having to self-reflect and pave ways forward in making tomorrow’s world more inclusive for all. However the ways in which the industry is tackling these important issues are being called into question, and that’s what I want to discuss. One way in which companies are reacting is by removing “controversial” content from streaming platforms. HBO Max removed the classic film “Gone with the Wind” (albeit they put it back on), whilst Netf
